Originally attempted during the Borg incursion of 2367 by the
USS Enterprise-D, this dangerous technique involved
channeling all of the warp core's power output through the
primary deflector dish for use as a weapon. This unorthodox
procedure required the installation of higher capacity power
transfer units to the deflector array (a job consuming the
better part of a day), as well as the complete evacuation of
the forward half of the stardrive section and the lower three
decks of the saucer section (because of the dangerous amounts
of radiation produced during the firing sequence).
The procedure resulted in serious thermal damage to the
Enterprise's warp reactor chamber and burned out
it's main deflector array. 8-12 hours of repair work were
necessary for the ship to regain warp capability.
