Nadions are a class of near-zero rest mass
subspace particle radiation (the other types of subspace radiation are
hyperonic,
tetryon,
amnion,
metreon,
verteron and
SEM)
produced when an exotic crystal called fushigi-no-umi (or boronite) becomes
energized by a plasmaic or
electric field. These particles are electrically neutral and composed of
two positively charged and two negatively charged elemental Geheiminis
particles, which have found extended application within the Yuufusion
Imperium. Most nadions are harmless and largely non-interactive particles
produced as a side effect of various technologies or natural processes. They
usually fall in to three basic categories: slow, regular, and rapid.
Nadions with a phase variance less than 0.00001 relative to normal matter
are called slow nadions are often found as side effects of transporters and
other matter-energy transfer devices. They do not interact in any
appreciable way with any kind of periodic matter and are usually not
detected unless specifically scanned for.
Nadions with a phase variance between 0.0009 and 0.009 are regular nadions,
or natural nadions. They are usually found in nature as a side effect of
subspace anomalies. Sometimes these nadions will interact moderately with
matter, exciting the occasional
electron to higher energy states for a short period of time.
Rapid nadions, however, are only produced by the artificial excitation of
fushigi-no-umi by plasma or electricity. Their
phase
variances can range as high as 0.09 and have the exotic effect of
interfering with the
Strong Nuclear Force within atomic nuclei. This effect, if intense
enough, will cause atoms to split. Also, at such extreme variances, these
particles will begin to alter the phasic state of the matter they interact
with, "dragging" it out of
frequency sync with the rest of the universe in an event commonly called
"vaporization" or "domain transition. This effect applies to both the matter and energy released
in the fissile effect, conveniently shunting dangerous radiation out of the
surrounding environment.
There are another class of nadions, recently discovered by scientists of the
Federation, dubbed Very Rapid Nadions with
phase
variances as high as 0.9. Like the rapid nadions, these particles interfere
with the
Strong Nuclear Force within atomic nuclei, but so much so that they
actually inhibit the action of
gluons
altogether. This causes nucleonic
protons and
neutrons to split as well into free floating
quarks,
which are quickly translated outside of the normal space-time continuum. |
