Baryons are a class of
hadrons
made from a basic structure of three
quarks.
The term "baryon" is derived from the Greek barys, meaning
"heavy," as they are heavier than the other main groups of
particles.
The
proton and
the neutron
are both baryons. The
antiproton
and the
antineutron are antibaryons. Baryons containing more massive
quarks
than those found in
protons or
neutrons
are all unstable because these
quarks
have a tendency to decay. |
