Gravitation is the
force of attraction that exists between all particles with mass in
a universe. It is the force of gravity (also called gravity
fields) which is responsible for holding objects onto the surface
of planets and, with Newton's law of inertia, is responsible for
keeping objects in orbit around one another. Any two objects exert
equal and oppositely directed gravitational pull on each other.
The speed of gravity is instantaneous; the effective time interval
between an increase in an object's mass (which would produce extra
gravitons) and the arrival of those gravitons to another mass
(regardless of distance) is effectively zero*. This is the reason
that the destruction of Amargosa on StarDate 48632.4 changed the
entire gravimetric configuration of the surrounding sector
instantly rather than over the course of twenty years.
