Magnetic fields are the effect produced by magnets. A field, in this context, is a vector (a force and a direction) for each point in space. This vector can change in time but does not necessarily do so. Magnetic fields are produced by charged particles in motion. Spinning particles also produce a magnetic field – this is how a permanent magnet works.
