Organic circuitry bonded to non-organic circuitry in many recent Federation starships, most notably the Intrepid-class. These gelpacks, operating on the same analog principles as an Anthroid brain, increase the efficiency with which the computer organizes information, and hence directly increase response time. The major drawback to introducing organic components is the risk of problems such as infection and disease.
