Arguably the most
important component of a hyperdrive starship's computer system,
the astronomical navigation computer, commonly shortened to
Astrogation or Navicomp, allows the starship to move around
hyperspace without colliding with stellar, planetary, or other
dangerous celestial bodies. This is of obvious importance, as
collision with the mass shadow of an object while in hyperspace
will destroy even the mightiest space vessels. The astrogation
computer relies heavily on the system's
Navigational Databank and
is typically linked to sophisticated gravity sensors designed to
large mass shadows in hyperspace and cut out the hyperdrive in
order to prevent catastrophic collisions. |
