A form of radiation
shielding found in the hull of Federation starships. Monocrystal
beryllium silicate is, as the name suggests, a single sheet
crystal of beryllium silicate. In Federation starship
construction, this crystal is grown in layers several centimeters thick,
molded to the shape of the space frame and incorporated into
the hull.
