Starships and Starfleets

Starship is a general term used to describe a space-vehicle capable of interstellar travel. Strictly speaking, a starship must be capable of faster-than-light travel, though the term is commonly used to describe any ship capable of travelling between stars--including multi-generational and cryostasis vehicles. The term was first coined by the people of Earth and as such the term is most commonly applied to the ships operated by the Federation and Starfleet.
