Lightsaber
From TFC Galactopedia
The traditional weapon carried by both Jedi and Sith, lightsabers were generally constructed by individual Force Users, often (though not always) as a form of Rite of Passage. They generally consisted of a cylindrical pommel sized for a two-handed grip. From the pommel projected an energy blade roughly a meter in length. The color of the blade was dependent on the form of crystal used in the lightsaber's constuction. The "best" crystals were Kaiburr or Adegan, though other types of gems worked just as well. Each lightsaber was highly personalized to the Jedi or Sith who created it. Unless destroyed, no Force User was willingly parted from their weapon. Some Jedi Masters were known to pass their lightsaber on to a child or apprentice upon their death. Sith more commonly took lightsabers as trophies from other Force Users they had killed.
Episode II: To explain the presence of lightsabers, the Jedi and the senior officers on board the Felix have spread word that these are considered weapons of "cultural significance", traditionally only carried by people of certain heritage from the Far Galaxy. They are to be treated much the way the Klingon Bat'leth is, and are not to be handled by persons without proper training. Felix security has also been asked to keep their eyes open in case new individuals from the Far Galaxy show up carrying lightsabers, and to inform the senior officers immediately if that happens.
