Languages
From TFC Galactopedia
Countless different spoken, written, and gestural languages are used by different cultures throughout the galaxies. Generally, the universal translator is able to surmount the language barrier between different groups but it is not always successful in deciphering unfamiliar speech. There are over six-million forms of communication in current use (both languages and computer code) in the Far Galaxy alone; the list below only catalogues some of the more common spoken languages from either galaxy.
As terran-type anthros are commonly found throughout most of the area between the Core Worlds and the Outer Rim, their native tongue, Basic, is considered the standard language throughout much of that galaxy and can be perfectly translated with modern universal translators due in part to its high resemblance to Federation Standard English (though unlike English, Basic is written in the script known as Aurebesh). Though not all aliens speak it, almost every species native to that galaxy can understand Basic, as it is the centrally agreed-upon trade language used for thousands of years in the Old Republic.
