Armand Wilhuff

From TFC Galactopedia

Background:

Born to spectacularly unremarkable parents in the capitol city of Lorrd, Armand admired the white-armored stormtroopers that occasionally served as police in his area, and his greatest dream was to be a part of the Imperial Army. Having graduated from his school with top-tier grades, he immediately enlisted in the army. After showing an incredible aptitude during training for tracking and intelligence gathering, he was fast-tracked into their Reconnaissance division to be trained as an AT-ST gunner.

Prior to Armand's first deployment, however, his life took a severe turn for the worse. During a live-fire exercise in an outlying area against training droids, simulating a scenario where he was assigned to a troop transport instead of to a walker, an antivehicular blaster bolt struck the side of his turret. The external damage was minor, as was expected during a training exercise, but the blast had devestating effects on the interior of the vehicle. The resulting spall fragments burst from the impact point inside the vehicle and struck Armand just above his left cheekbone, the larger chunks tearing through flesh and bone to destroy his eyes and most of his optic nerves. Had Armand received immediate medical attention, his vision would've been saved, but the travel delay from being so far away from a civilized area prevented conventional bacta treatment from doing more than triggering the regrowth of skin over the damaged areas.

Unable to continue in the Imperial Army, even if he had accepted cybernetic replacements, Armand was honorably discharged and sent home with a very generous compensation package. Considering the Lorrdian's unique kinetic communication is based upon visual cues, however, Armand was considered an outcast among his own people. Even cybernetic replacements would've been inadequate to restore his ability to read kinetic communication. Blind, and half-deaf by Lorrdian standards, he retreated into his own mind for several years, living off a military pension. His life's dream had been ruined by, of all things, sheer chance.

Armand had nothing to do, no goal in life, and spent his days alone in his apartment reading tactile-print books. Slowly, surely, he lost track of time between the scheduled food deliveries he'd set up. Lost in thought, he inadvertantly discovered something he'd never noticed about himself before. Even though his vision had been utterly destroyed, he could see shapes, sometimes colors, if he concentrated. He didn't immediately identify this as a connection to the Force, instead believing he was slowly going insane.

One day, a Sith agent showed up at Armand's door and - After a brief confrontation and standoff - explained what was going on inside Armand's head. Armand, relieved to know he wasn't going insane, immediately agreed to an offer to be trained in how to use this "new sense". Before long, he found himself able to use the Force as his eyes, though he never did regain the ability to understand kinetic communication again. As a result, he's remained a very depressed, smouldering individual, which he uses to his advantage when making use of the Force for anything more than finding his way around.

Physical Description:

Character Notes:

Armand is a master of kinetic communication, a gestural language developed on Lorrd several thousand years ago while his species was enslaved by the Argazda, and is still in use to this day. While his blindness prevents him from reading gestural cues as he once did, Armand's extensive knowledge of kinetic communication allows him to dampen his own body language to the point where he is impossible to "read" visually - Unless he *wants* to be read, or the person attempting to read him can touch the Force.

Beyond using the Force as a replacement for natural vision, Armand is capable with a handful of Force abilities: Fear, Illusion, Empathy, and various small uses of telekinetics are his usual tricks.

Due to his time in the Imperial military, Armand keeps his body close to peak physical condition. Armand is also extremely well-versed in blaster combat, in spite of his handicap, specializing in them to the exclusion of his issued lightsaber. This isn't to say he cannot defend himself with a lightsaber, just that he uses it as more of an intimidation tool instead of as a weapon.

Armand certainly isn't the best combatant, barely able to hold his own against other Force users, and as a result he's been trained more heavily in the art of infiltration and intelligence gathering than in the martial arts.

Even though he doesn't know it, the Sith consider Armand to be a disposable asset, barely connected to the Force, really only useful for getting into places that a Hunter couldn't to gather intelligence, intimidating disruptive societial elements into compliance, and functioning as a one-shot disposable assassin should the need arise.
