Background:
Alaria was born to Alexander and Serenity Solaren on Corellia. She spent the first six years of her life there. Her father was a career pilot and CorSec officer, spending his life defending Corellia. He was a gentle man and open minded. Her parents had an interspecies relationship. Alaria’s father was a snow leopard, while her mother is a black furred lemorian with long white hair, thus their daughter’s odd coloration. Perhaps her father’s only flaw was he made no secret that he was in favor of equality towards females and aliens (seeing as he married one). At his wife’s urging, he moved his family to neutral Lemoria Prime when his daughter was seven years old to protect them from the growing hostility. He traveled between the two worlds to visit them until his death, when Alaria was 12. The circumstances surrounding his death were never fully investigated, though those who shared views similar to his mourned his passing. His ship broke up in the atmosphere on what should have been a normal reentry maneuver. There were whispers of sabotage and assassination, but nothing was ever conclusively proved. Officially his cause of death was listed as pilot error. After her father’s death, Alaria begged her mother to let her take flying lessons herself. She wanted nothing more than to be like her father, whom she saw as a hero. Her mother reluctantly agreed to the lessons.
She was either ‘a natural’, or extremely lucky. Her tutors never managed to figure out which. She managed to impress (and annoy) her instructors so much over the course of the next four years that they recommended her to the Imperial Flight Academy at the age of 16. They did it more to get her out of their hair than anything else, but the girl WAS skilled. Her transcripts were accepted and she continued to excel in any area where flying was concerned. She had some difficulty with classes outside her chosen venue, which pulled her overall scores down some, but her performance with anything that flew was untouchable. She graduated in the top fifteen percent of her class. At first it seemed like her dreams of emulating her father were coming true, but after two years of being given only escort duty or supply runs, despite her excellent track record, Alaria found herself more and more frustrated. She was passed over twice for promotions because of an increasing attitude problem where authority was concerned. Finally fed up with babysitting flights, she resigned from her commission and decided to enter the private sector.
She put a hefty down payment on her own ship which she named Shadow Dancer - a Corellian Action VI Transport. She supported herself by doing dangerous, but legitimate, cargo runs at first, pushing to get her cargo to its destination faster and having avoided and outmaneuvered danger spots, be they natural or pirate in form. She gained a reputation as a reliable pilot, if one who had a thirst for danger and liked to push the envelope. She always got her cargo delivered on time (or even ahead of time) and undamaged. Soon her reputation also traveled to the ears of less savory individuals. She began to get propositions for smuggling jobs. Once she realized these jobs not only paid better than legitimate runs, but also exposed her to more and more dangerous situations thereby allowing her to get her fill of thrills, she jumped at the chance. They required a few changes to her ship, not all of them legal, but she didn’t mind. She soon had an excellent reputation among the smuggling and gunrunning community, and enough common sense to make sure she didn’t brag to the wrong people, or get caught by Imperial patrols or rivals. She had been careful to keep her underworld activities as low profile as possible.
Alaria still visits her mother regularly, but has not informed her mom of her real career choice. Her mother thinks Alaria just works as a courier and cargo hauler. She has paid off her ship and is constantly tinkering with and upgrading it. She has been known to take parts and equipment (especially weapons, shield and hyperdrive upgrades) in trade for some runs if she feels it’s worth enough and useful to her. She continues to fly solo, though not for lack of offers. She prefers to fly alone. In the seven years she has spent as a freelance pilot, she has gotten very familiar with a wide range of worlds, and has contacts in many spaceports.
Physical Description:
Alaria Solaren is half snow leopard and half Lemorian (arctic fox). She resembles a snow leopard but with black fur, dark grey rosettes, pale grey spots and a creamy underbelly. Her nose is pink as is the inside of her ears. She has dark emerald eyes and shoulder length, curly hair. She appears to be in her mid-twenties and stands about 5'6" tall. Alaria has an hourglass figure. She's often seen wearing her leather pilot's suit.
Character Notes:
Alaria has a need for speed and danger that is almost compulsive. Her childhood obsession with her father’s heroism (in her eyes) has turned into a need to prove herself worthy of his memory with her flying skills. She is not above using her ‘feminine wiles’ and exotic coloration to help her get her way. She is tough enough to take care of herself, but knows better than to get in over her head in physical matters. She is loyal to people she really cares about (like her mother), but has no problem giving up people who cross her. She is a very high-energy person. Although she does not always speak the ‘language of logic’ she is quite intelligent. In general she prefers to approach things in a blunt and straightforward manner rather than beating around the bush.
