The Ambush of Rhen Var - 1779 JAC

Roughly a year after the onset of the Clone Wars, Separatist forces attacked a Jedi stronghold on the ice planet Rhen Var. The world had been under protective quarantine for hundreds of years by the Jedi Order, who had-for reasons largely unknown-insisted that the planet posed a threat to the greater Republic.

The attack was instigated by one of the leaders of the Separatist movement, Count Dúuki, who had convinced elements of both the Techno Union and the Trade Federation that the Jedi's "protective quarantine" was simply a front for a covert military operation.

Separatist forces met with little resistance when invaded the planet, however, as there were only a handful of Jedi left to protect the world. Knowing that they could not hope to defeat a contingent of the Separatist army, they opted to evacuate the planet peacefully.

Truth be told, the significance of Rhen Var lay not in any nonexistent military operations taking place on the world, but rather in a set of abandoned tombs buried beneath the planet's icy surface. Thousands of years ago, Rhen Var had housed a temple of the ancient Sith, which now lay in a scattered field of ruin. Count Dúuki's true intentions had been to unleash what ancient Sith artifacts remained for use in his war against the Jedi and the Republic. The last one to deal with these artifacts was the Jedi Ulic Qel-Droma, now nearly four millennia dead.

In hopes they might learn how to defeat Count Dúuki's plan, the Jedi later mounted a taskforce to retake Rhen Var from Separatist control. Had their efforts not been successful, the outcome of the Clone Wars might have been vastly different-as the relics would have given Dúuki the power to defeat the Jedi in the heart of the Clone Wars-a blow that could have turned the tides of the conflict in the Separatist's favor.
